1998 Bose Problem

I've had a problem with the volume control **** on my Bose radio for a while now, but it's gotten to the point that it is too inconsistent and I want to fix it.
When trying to raise or lower the volume, the **** can just spin without any adjustment to the volume whatsoever. This has been happening more and more as the car has gotten older
Happens more often early in the morning when it is most damp outside.
Dealer never finds a problem. Various google searches and other forums have yielded no advice.
Thanks all.

common problem with the Bose radio. I replaced my HU for the same problem. Check the f/s forums, you can probably find a good working HU from someone who swapped to aftermarket.
