Attn: Daniel B
Hi,
I recently re-ran engine codes after my car kept stalling. Both codes (plus an OD-II scan tool) revealed my ECTS was shot. I changed it. Now my car will tick but not turn over and start. All I hear is a tick.
My assumption was the starter is gone. Another friend suggested alternators die regularly on 4th gens and this might be it. Please advise, TIA.

Work safely! Be sure your transmission is in neutral when you energize the starter motor directly.

thanks. i will try the jumper cable trick, tomorrow under supervision.

Get a "jump start" from a good battery with a set of jumper cables. If your engine cranks readily, then the starter is good.

If not, remove the intake ductwork which obscures access to the starter. Use one jumper cable to supply 12 volts directly to the starter motor. If it still won't crank, it is bad. Your profile shows your Maxima is a '95. There have been a lot of complaints about weak starters in the '95s.

Bascially bypassed where the line where the key and starter will ignite the motor, using a screwdriver he tapped the starter (with no response)

Okay, I'm convinced. Time for a new starter.
