i hear ppl have some kind of exhaust wrap or something done to the flex section, i ordered my y pipe this weekend and its on the way, is there something else i should buy or do to it, or the are, before i have the mechanic install it?
yes !!! - take it to any mufler shop , pay them $5-10 and have them blow torch the rusted bolts on your cat , they will install new bolts there which will save you lots of time, frustration and wd-40 !!!
good luck !!!

You only have a 97, I would not get the bolts torched off before you can have a chance to do them yourself.
I would go out the day before you are going to do the y-pipe install, and spray some rust penetrator or something like that on the cat bolts. Let them soak and maybe even tap on them with a hammer. Do that like 4 times with about 30-40 minutes inbetween, and it should loosen the bolts enough that you would be able to get them off of there.

im not doing the actual install myself....im taking it to jeff from maximumtuning....he charges 80 for the whole install. i think he torches em off for u, maybe a few bucks extra....but underneath my car, my whole exhaust is like rusting to hell.....ive got maybe a year left on it...i hpoe starting wit the y pip is a good idea...
