Need replacement keys and remote- HELP

I need help. I just bought a 99 max (I have 2 now- guess I like it)- and it only came with 1 set of keys and remote.

I need another set of keys and want to know if I can get them cut without going to the dealer and paying $100 plus reset charges (not sure what the they are talking about here).

The used car dealer told me I can get keys cut elsewhere for $50- Is he full of it?

I was told there is a chip in the key, if so, sounds lik I need to go to da nissan dealer.

Any advise on the key?

For the remote, I was gonna get a used one and reset it- can anyone confirm procedure - I was reading about pulling the keys in and out of ignition 6 times in 10 seconds, and puching button- not sure if it works on 99 maxima.

thanks in advance

Not sure about a 99, but w/a 95, you take the VIN to the dealer, they give you a code, and you have any locksmith make it.

I bought a transponder key off ebay for like 20 shipped. You can go to the dealer and it will be about 100 for the key and for the programming. I think the programming is like 35 out here. You can also buy remotes off ebay.

Hi, doesnt look like i have anywhere else to turn except the dealer- the 99 maxima was the first model where they introduced the computer chip in the key- so you cant go anywhere other than the nissan dealer since they need to reprogram the key as well as the one I already have.

Its gonna be $110 for the key and $40 to reprogram ($CDN).

You can buy a keyless entry remote from ebay ranging from $20 to $30 shipped depending on the condition of the remote. I just bought one that looked like it was new for $30 shipped. And it's very easy to program, no sense in paying the dealership to do it for you.
I found the instructions online, so just do a google search and you'll find it.

G/L.
