It's hard to put into figures (hp) but performance is always affected when the timing has been retarded which is esentially what happens when the KS goes bad. I replaced mine and noticed a significant increase in performance and gas mileage

Can anyone else answer my question about how to check codes on the 95 and 96's, other than going to Autozone and getting it done? Is there a code reader that I have to buy? Where does it plug in to? If so, how much are they?

BTW, there is no way that weight is the difference. I put my tool box in my car occasionally and it weighs over a hundred lbs. The car still rips.

Read the FAQs there is a way to do it yourself, no equipment needed.....except a screw driver.

i never insisted that weight made a huge difference, i just said it because everything little adds up.

I tried searching the FAQ. Personally, the search feature isn't working. I put in "engine codes" "codes" and get nothing. Can anyone out there that has the know how tell me how to get engine codes w/o bringing the car somewhere or using a code reader?

beg to differ.... the addition of side air bags and pre cat alone are more than 10 lbs.... but thats neither here nor there.

For a car to be that much slower could be a bunch of stuff. The most obvious are the KS, coil packs, and O2 sensors....

I'd say that sounds like you're saying that weight is a big difference.

Isn't the pre-cat only for the cali spec? He never said it was a CALI spec. All I was trying to say is that the body weight difference is so minimal, not 100+lbs like everyone is saying. The biggest difference is probably the wheels.

I know your point Dave, I was just say that a 99 can weigh more than a 96. I dont think weight is his problem either.

All 99's have the extra pre-cat.
