need advice on max!!!!!!!

recently bought a 97 maxima gxe peble beige and im not sure if i should keep it or sell it, i love driving hard but this car is auto i had a 5th gen celica that i use to burn rubber and race around without worrying about breaking the tranny, is the auto max worth keeping or should i sell and get a 5spd, i want something i can drive hard when i go to races, i love the way the car drives its smooth and quick but i feel that auto tranny is gonna stand in the way of making it faster, and btw any nice exterior mods for a gold maxima i dont like the color to much.....

hey man.. this is coming from a fellow maxima driver w/auto.. mines a 97 also.. se though.. and i wish that didnt have my auto tranny.. i mean the motor is strong.. but the tranny isnt setup for racing at all.. its setup for "luxury driving" in other words for grandma's.. i mean dont get me wrong i love driving it.. its just that either youre coasting along or its just gettin up and haulin ***.. no real in between when pressing on the gas(if that makes sense).. but i dont really drive mine hard all the time.. only every once in a while.. plus these auto trannys are known for "lagging" i wouldnt recommend you keeping the auto.. i would get a 5spd.. i wish that i had one.. im even contemplating getting a tranny swap done..
so learn from my mistake.. get a manny.. plus theyre like half a second (or more) faster in the quarter mile.. and of course youll be able to pull more hp to the wheels with it..

The tranny will hold up as long as you dont do anything crazy like neutral drops. There are a couple members here that are running a stock tranny with boost that are holding up fine.

I would install a tranny cooler and add some redline if the oil is old. You can also get a new ECU to extend the shifts to redline.

As far as exterior mods for a gold maxima, i would put red/clear taillights at the top of the list; its an easy do it yourself job, there are some write ups in the FAQ's

i use to say the same about a auto being slow till i saw c-max in action. he hooked up his auto to run 12.9 @ 111 mph in the 1/4. it took some money but if your concerned about it being auto and slow dont, it is just as fast and faster when hooked up.
