I have no idea about the possiblity of feasibility of this, but do you think any tranny or engine components from the new Altima or Maxima could squeeze into a 4th gen Maxima (cost issues aside). For example, if the 3.5 L displacement is obtained by essentially swapping in different components into the VQ30DE block, think any of those pieces could be put into our cars?

Just thinking.

There is a very good chance I will be putting the 3.5 VQ and 6spd tranny in my I30 some time next year. As for fitment issues, I can't say for sure{Yet!} if it will be a clean bolt on swap but I think there is a good chance it will be. I think that the 3.5 VQ is just a bored out version of the 3.0 VQ, if this is the case the swap should and will be easy. BTW in a year or so from now I bet I will be able to find a nice 3.5 VQ engine and 2002 6spd tranny for around $2300{junk yard}. Not a bad deal for a extra 70 hp huh?

I don't have any specs on the new engine. However, I don't expect it to be "just a bored out version." The VQ30DE is already "oversquare" (larger bore than stroke). Bore = 93mm, stroke = 73.3mm. For this reason I expect the 3.5 version to be stroked, not bored.

Found them. The VQ35DE dimensions are bore = 95.5mm, stroke = 81.4 mm. Therefore the VQ35DE engine is a bored and stroked version of the VQ30DE.

Do you know if the bolts will line up in my engine bay? Or if the engine block is the same diameter? Thanks if you know.

I have no information about the external dimensions or mounting pad locations.

Diameter is a dimension of a circle or cylinder. I don't know what is meant by diameter of an engine block.

i heard the only thing about swaping a engine is that the new intake manifolds are higher than the ones inthe 4 generation max,s the only think u would have to do is rise your hood some how.

There's a lot of clearance above the intake manifold on my 4Gen Maxima.
