you can get new struts from advanced auto parts ~$40 for 2, will hold that hood up for you.

one day i was working on my car and there was this little piece of wood about 1" thick by about 3x3" ... i was like, sweet just what i need.

now whenever I open the hood I wrap it in a rag and wedge it in the corner where the hinges are, works great

Vice grips - most definitely. Best $10 bucks I've spent to fix this problem.

I say go to a junkyard and get some off a late model Maxima w/ low miles. OEM quality + cheap junkyard price = teh win.

the auto zone ones are not the bad and i would say very easy to install they are a little different becuase the screw must be placed in the ball joint as opposed to allready having the screw in the joint like the oem's.

i just cut a nice piece of 2x2 and use it for a prop since my hoodstrut started leaking pink crap out of it and didn't hold up my hood. got enough weight in it that i don't need a baseball bat anymore.

i got a pair of strong arms for 9.99 through my father's work which have lasted for over a year. the only time they're not so good is when it's cold out and high winds. i had it fall on my once last week while doing a coolant flush so i used a piece of wood just in case.

some people have recomended these and i want to get one. others speculated it might ruin the strut, but if your struts are dead anyways, i wouldn't worry about it. i doubt it would even damage a good strut unless you put it on too tight. http://www.thetoolwarehouse.net/shop/LIS-44870.html

some people also use vice grips for safety measures.

you could also just get a hood prop from a junkyard and custom do it in your car.

just a few ideas for you...goodluck

You may be lucky like me. It turned out that only one of my hood struts was bad. So I'm out $20 no big deal.
