Well, Dave B had it for a while, but then he took it off and now he says his car feels faster without it.

Cumalot installed one as soon as they came out. After about 5 weeks he changed his mind and sold it for cheap.

from the viewpoint of a honda accord VTEC owner, VTEC is somewhat over rated. As many honda owners will agree with me, Dual Cam VTEC is nice for a high compression all motor car. Otherwise it gets crazy and expensive when trying to tune after adding boost. Most honda guys i talk to wish they didnt have or are glad they do not have VTEC when it comes to boosting bc of all the tuning they have to go thru. my accord definitely accelerates at least twice as fast once it hits 3500 but my friend Mad-Max_SE would own me all day long even when he was stock (granted i have SOHC). so unless youre lookin to spend extra money and lots o tuning IMO its not worth it (unless youre not gonna boost) just a newbs 2 cents.

Amen. 1990 Accord VTEC here ... worthless. Sold it to my friends wife so she had something reliable to get her kids around in.

Overrated in what terms? VTEC is/was not always used to enhance performance. It was used for emission control also.

yes - good point man, you are correct. actually the main reason for making a SOHC VTEC was for better gas mileage and emissions.
by over rated i mean that every kid w/ a civic that has a VTEC engine thinks its the fastest thing on the block. dont get me wrong VTEC can be great - i was actually gonna swap an H22 into my accord and turbo it, but this is VERY expensive. The first credible turbo H22 cams just came out (i forget who makes them, but they are VERY expensive).

That's right. I didn't want to chime in, becuase obviously members like "MZMTG" like to take credit for something that isnt theirs.

I had it tuned to 7 pounds, 5-6lbs coming in right off idle, full power by 2500rpm. It gave me HELLA surging at idle and mid 2k rpm, so I had to get rid of the B-O-V and bypass the VTEC air dispensing controller and recirc it. I enrichened the fuel mixture 30% below 1k rpm as well. These two things got rid of 84% of my problems, but unfortunately some ******* in a honda nailed me and my car was no more.

BUT, now I have an American muscle car that piddles on each and every one of your farting ricer mobiles, so I couldn't be happier.

You see....a high performance DOHC V8 and 4.10 gears = off the line. I enjoy flaunting my 106.2 trap speed rather than my chitty 13.8 ET. Now once I get me a pair of DR's, then it will be a different story.
