Whining noise from my max
Whining noise from my max
I have a 1999 maxima. Since a few weeks I hear a whining kind of a niose from my car. I hear the noise only when my car is stopped or when running at low speeds like upto about 25 mph. Above that I am not sure if the noise stops or I just cant here it. Also the whine takes a higher pitch as the RPM increases.
I am worried, this should not be a major problem. I haven't seen any marked difference in the performance though, although sometimes I feel that my car has become a little sluggish and rough - but I guess that could very well be my mind playing tricks on me.
What could it be? Should I take it for repairs? Please help/advise.

Manual or automatic?
if stick, does the noise go away when you press the clutch? If it does, then it's probably the dreaded internal tranny bearing defect. Mine has been making that noise for 15k miles. Drives the same but that noise is loud.

It happens even in neutral. It starts from the minimum possible rpm to about 25 mph speed.
Also, I just got my 60 K tune up done, but I really smell something fishy in the tune up, I think that the guy cheated me on that. He didnt do a proper job.
Also, maximas have timing chains and so no need to change them, I am told.

Were the belts changed at the tune-up - maybe they are too loose? or if they weren't changed, it's time. I mean the accessory belts, you are correct in that the VQ engine does not have a timing belt, but uses a chain instead.

You're probably going to have to be a little more specific, could be any number of things, as mentioned alternator, belts, transmission, also could be brakes, starter or anything else that turns. We are all willing to help each other here but you need to help us, thanks
