HELP...2 Wheel studs broke :(

HELP...2 Wheel studs broke :(

I went to take off my wheel and the wheel stud broke with the lug nut Has anyone ever replaced a stud. Is it difficult to do? If any one has any pictures on replacing it, that would be very helpfull cus i didnt seem to find any stickies.

Consider yourself lucky. They're pretty easy to replace if they snap off, much harder when they get stripped and you have to cut them off like I had to do.

Once you have the wheel off you should be able to knock it out of the back of the hub with a punch and a hammer. Then get a new lug and push it in from the back of the hub get a number of washers big enough to slip over the top of the stud and tighten the lug nut against the washers. This will pull the stud into the hub.

I'm sure I saw a write up on this.... if I find it I'll post a link.

I had to replace a stud recently because one of the lug nuts had gotten cross threaded. I could probably have used a die to clean up the threads on the stud, but replacing it was no big deal. Remove the wheel, disconnect the caliper and the "torque member", remove the rotor (it should just slide off), whack out the old stud with a hammer, insert new stud (available at Auto Zone), then seat the new stud as described above.

There is a write-up somewhere, at motorvate.ca, I believe. Lemme see... Here. This isn't exactly it, but does describe the disassembly of the brakes.

i had 6 broke on me.

just knock them out. and put the new ones on and just put some anti sieze on them before u put on the lug nuts on the new ones.....if u sense that they will break off...lub them up with some PB blaster and work them off...thats what got the other lug nuts off.......

my lesson learned. DON'T use tunner style lug nuts when u can use ur regular

Yeah, it's pretty easy to do. Moron ****weeds who work at tire joints generally use an impact wrench set to five million PSI to put the damn nuts back on, which is why these so commonly break.

Go slowly, so that the metal doesn't get too hot. Also it's not a bad idea to lubricate it, so as to minimize damage to the threads when you're cranking it back on to the wheel. It's recommended to not reuse the nut to hold the wheel on; once you've used it to pull the new stud on, throw it away. You can probabyl find an open-ended nut that fits your car from autozone or advance auto parts.
