concern with safety issues due to mods

well the other day i was thinking about front strut bars and how they can be so strong and stiffen up your front end so much to the point that if your in a wreck the whole front end folds around it. so great job on making a strong piece of metal but has anyone stopped to think of the safety issues that comes with this? i mean i know im not a physics major or anything but wouldnt the force of impact be increased if the front end isnt allowed to crumple correctly? another thought of mine had to do with the new diamond plate aluminum truck piece that i think paradox-systems is selling. what would happen if you had that in your trunk in your rearended pretty hard? theres just something about sending a fairly sharp piece of metal through my back seats, especially if i have passangers back there. i dunno this might just be mild paranoia from me since ive been in a few bad accidents, but i think these are some pretty serious points.

correct me if im wrong.

Those parts are usually made of aluminum which will crumple just like the rest of the car.

LOL, that's funny man. I seriously doubt that if you're in serious wreck that the strut brace will significantly affect the car's crumple zones. Maybe if it was placed from the windshield towards the bumper but not sideways the way it's used in the car.

As for the diamond plate in the trunk, I also doubt it will turn into a deadly projectile and frisbee into the passenger compartment give everyone the half cut. It'll just crumple, bend and fold into a diamond plate mess, but I doubt it will hurt anyone.

yea you take a huge thin oeice of aluminum and it will fold like a fat persons belly. And a strut bar.....unless you were hit hella hard right on the side of your fender where the ar was i do not think it would do much damage. even if you did get it there.your fire wall, and front brace i am sure is much stronger than that bar, so it would take alot to affect it.

Back in '02 when I got into a pretty bad accident, I think my stillen fstb actually kept my car from getting completely totalled out. I got hit by an accord inbetween my left fender and driver door at about 30mph, from a 45 degree angle. I've seen similar crashes like that where the entire side caves in, but much to my surprise, the max held up pretty well. The frame near the strut mount wasn't bent out of shape at all, and held form where the fstb bolted on. The wheel and lower fender area was crushed in a bit, and my windshield actually cracked a little bit from the pressure, but in all, it should have been far worse. Wish I had some pics. Damage came out to around $8k in repairs. I was still able to open my door halfway and walk away from the accident without anything more than a neck ache. The sad thing is that I sorta wish that my max was totalled back then, she hasn't been the same ever since.

Where's the pics of clee's wreck when I need them... the strut bar will crumple like spaghetti in a serious impact. That should be your last concern.
