Q about Redline shift boot installation

The top of the Redline shift boot is much larger than the shaft of the shifter. How is it secured at the top? It looks like those with stock shifters just pull it up over the bottom of the shift ****? Does it stay there?

To secure it BELOW the ****, just for aesthetics or for use with an aftermarket ****, can it be installed with the rubber piece from the original shift boot?

If not, can the top be folded under and zip-tied in place? Does this look OK and work OK?

I won't be installing mine till after Christmas, and this has been bugging me since I got the boot in the mail last week.

I just attached mine to that little black plastic piece that came out of the inside top of the stock shift boot. It attached up the same way, little rubber band thingie and all. It was a bit more difficult to do right, since the leather is a lot thicker than that vinyl, but it was possible. You just have to work with it a bit.
