Race with a little bimmer
Tonight while I was coming home from work, I had a little race with a bmw 318 hatchback. I was going like 50 when I saw him in my rear view mirror coming at me pretty quick. I was on the left and he was on the right. So when he was about one car length behind me I start to gas it but i was too late and he got in front of me alittle. Then we hit traffic but I was the first to get out and he follows me. I was leading the whole time since we get out of traffic. I had about a car and a half on him, I didn't even floor the car,probably went up to 4500 rpm, but my cuz, who was also in the car, said that he can tell the little bimmer was WOT. So now I'm on the right side and he cuts to the left side. I see a curve up ahead, it wasn't very steep, and the road is kinda thin with 2 lanes and I know there's a light alittle past the curve. So right before we hit the curve, I brake and he pasts me. I really hate the handling of the Max. I mean I can take that curve with no problems with my brothers 94 accord ex. But when I'm driving my car and there are lots of curves I tend to have to slow down. The Max seems to "swing" alot when I'm doing curves at high speed.It seems very unstable. Does anyone have or had this problem with their cars stock? Does the Fstb and Rsb really help much? Thanks
well my suspension is basically stock. what really made a difference is when I bought new wheels and tires. really stiffened up the ride ALOT. the lower pro tires dont lean in turns as much as the stock ones. Still have problems going fast through turns but the wheels made a big difference. still going to get a FSTB soon and hopefully lowering it when I have the $$$.
I have to agree, sort of. With the bigger, lower profile tires, I can come around exit ramps significantly(15-20 MPH) faster than I could have before without a peep from the tires. However, if I hit a bump while in the turn, its all over. The steering wheels kinda 'kicks back' at me, and the car does a wagging the tail kind of motion. Some people in my car have also noticed it without me saying anything about it beforehand. But getting back on topic, with bigger rims and tires, the car feels more planted, and as an added bonus, the steering feels heavier and more direct.
Rear flakyness
I had all the observations as everyone else mentioned above, but I had them with my 17s on. The rear wouldn't feel as planted as I'd want it to be What made the difference for me was;
1. Differentiating the front to rear tire pressure. I used to run equal pressures on all sides. Now I run 36 psi in the front and 30 in the rear. This will bring the planted feel up a notch in the back.
2. Get the RSB. MAN did that make a difference. I can really play hard in the corners now, better than most cars, too. The FTSB also give your front end a much more solid feel as well. I got 'em both, so I'm good to go. Keep in mind that the RSB and the RSTB are 2 different things. The RSB is way more effective, too.
