Well, I have 2 friends, they are brothers. One has a stock 2k1 gle auto the other has a 97 gle auto with intake and full exhaust. They are dead even at the track. On the highway you would think the 2k1 would pull on the 96 but it didn't.

5th gen. It's got a superior power to weight ratio.

The VQ35 cars do, the VQ30DE-K cars don't.

the 4th gen would win due to the fact that they weight less then the 5th gen and even though the 2k+ have alot more HP they still lose auto to auto on stick it would most likely take a stick 4th gen.

DE-K's have more top end power, I would assume they'd pull up top more.

I raced a couple of 00-01's at the track when I was stock and the 00-01 wins after 330ft. 4th Gen autos seem to get a better jump from the start but the 00-01 VI gives it more high end power to catch up.

I own a 95 SE auto and my parents own a 2K Se auto.. i drove both and the 4th gen feels more nimble and my engine feels more responsive tranny too... and i have 235K on it... the 5th gen has 60K on it and feels more slugish when down shifting... like a grandma tranny... yes 222HP but its not as fun to drive as my car... can anybody explaine why the 5th gen tranny feels slower then the 4th gen??

4th gens have a better HP and TQ to weight ratio below 2,500rpms, right where an auto really needs the power to get a strong launch. 4th gens should pull about a car length from that alone throughout most of 1st gear, but the 5th gen would slowly reel back the more gears you go through. Eventually, the 5th gen should be ahead and continue to pull flat out in 3rd gear. If you base it off of magazine times, the 5th gen is normally slower because of one reason, the 5th gen short-shifts before redline and to get the most out of it, you must manually shift to redline, whereas the 4th gens shift points suites its powerband.

4th gens do feel more nimble, I agree. The transmission seems more playful, especially when kicking down a gear to pass. 4th gens will kick down to 1st gear below 37mph, whereas the 5th gen's will only kick down to that gear below 29mph. 4th gens will kick down to 2nd gear below 69mph, whereas the 5th gen will kickdown to that gear below 64mph. Not only that, the 4th gens shift much quicker without all that fussy TCM and TC free-play like 5th gens have.

There even to what speed? After 85, the 4th Gen loses.

They were up to about 120 and were even with the 4th gen maybe a bumper ahead. In the 1/4 mile drag they are even.

Don't say anything else. Everyone wants to be the fastest and the best. I still have a tape of me getting whipped at the end of the 1/4.

I will add the the 00 AE auto is slow.

But I don't see it possible for a 4th auto to beat a 00-01 auto with same mods and working VI on highway speeds over 70.

I was just saying don't argue with these guys.

You're right. 00-01's will run away from a 4th gen in the high end range.

00AE

ru4real had a 00 AE auto and couple even break 15.7 in the 1/4.

Cousin 2004 Max Auto No Mods
Ive driven and raced all of these cars and my maxima beat both of these in 3 mile races from the jump the 01 pulls on both the 99 and 04 but after 25 mph my car dominated both with the 04 a close second behind crazy huh

weird part is i have a 4th gen and my friend has a 00 with almost identical mods and after 80mph i kill him. i dont have a VI either. I also have 136k miles compared to his 40k. Either way the 5th gens are just too fat to keep up. now the 5.5 gen is a different story although i did keep up with one for a bit

Well these guys are both 15.6s cars at a pretty slow track, .2s slower than Byron. The 2k1 is stock as I said and probably runs 15.4-15.5 bone stock, it's a GLE with pretty much every option, 16" wheels.

stock for stock they are even with the 4th gen having a little more off the line, highway race the 5th gen will slowly pull away.

4th gen with intake and y pipe will walk away from 5th gen with intake at any speed.
