4th Gen Maxima

Based on everyone's experiences with a '98 or '99 Maxima (SE or GLE), what is the average mileage that this car could take before seeing any serious signs of tranny or engine problems?

I'm in the market for such a Maxima and wanted to get an idea of what mileages to weed out of my search.

Thanks

its not about the mileage. its about how well the previous owner took care of the car and also how hard of a driver he was.

98 and 99's are the same car... only difference is 99's had a problem with coils but thats about it.

Like stated above, it depends on how the previous owner took care of the car. Engine failures are nearly non existant, transmission failures are more common. 5 speeds tend to lose 3rd and 1st gear but then again those are the guys who usually abuse the hell out of their car.
Autos.. transmission failures as well but nothing too serious considering how many 4th Gen Maximas are out there.

i personally think the VG30DE and VG30 are the best engines ever made ...

my 1991 was at 303747 km when it got smashed in ... and the engine was running like a new one

I got a 1991 gxe sitting in the driveway. only 15k miles on it. But I have abused this car to no end. I've let it sit for a whole winter without starting. And when spring came around just threw in a new batery and started it. Started right up..after I freed up the brakes by throwing it around corners like a mad man for about 5 mins..the car was running like a champ once again. It's been sitting for 2 months so far...I'm gonna go pick on it later just for fun. What a glorious and bullet proof engine that thing is...will never die.

Well, my 95 just turned 200k miles without any serious engine or tranny trouble.

The auto trans sure doesnt shift like it was new, but it's not about to die either.
