definitely sounds like you have the bearing problem. mine sounds like the card in the bicycle tire. if nothing else go to your local Nissan stealership and pay the $89 diagnostic fee like I did and they'll tell you exactly what it is. BTW a new tranny or rebuilt as they say fron Nissan will cost you around $2200.

if you get a tranny from anywhere but the dealership you should shave a cool 1K off the price (dealerships like to rob ya)

Same problem here on my 96 SE 5speed. I've been dealing with that noise coming from the tranny for the past 20k miles. Recently it got A LOT louder, as described before like a card in a bicycle tire lol. I'm going to get a whole new transmition used for under $500. Labor is free because my brother has a shop and can do the installation. My options are:

infinity i30 5speed with LSD (would love to have but hard to find for cheap)
00-01 5th gen max 5speed (I've heard that they are stronger than 4rth gens)
95-96 5speed (last option, must be low miles)

i think it's time for me to get another Tranny cause that thing is getting louder and louder but tight on the budget might have to deal with it for a few months till the $$$ comes
