Tranny Dying out i think ??
i been having this weird sound for the pass year coming from the engine bay a hmmm hmmm sound at low speed while speed increase it starts to sound like an jet engine car had 145K on it i try to put it in neutral {5Speed} and rev it everything sounds good the sound only come out while i'm in gear everything shifts good been driving with the problem for over a year i would like my car like the good old days nice and quite while i'm driving any suggestion what should i do would be greatly appreciate

is it every gear? is it whining in every gear? then it may be teh differential bearing problem.

definitely sounds like you have the bearing problem. mine sounds like the card in the bicycle tire. if nothing else go to your local Nissan stealership and pay the $89 diagnostic fee like I did and they'll tell you exactly what it is. BTW a new tranny or rebuilt as they say fron Nissan will cost you around $2200.

Same problem here on my 96 SE 5speed. I've been dealing with that noise coming from the tranny for the past 20k miles. Recently it got A LOT louder, as described before like a card in a bicycle tire lol. I'm going to get a whole new transmition used for under $500. Labor is free because my brother has a shop and can do the installation. My options are:
infinity i30 5speed with LSD (would love to have but hard to find for cheap)
00-01 5th gen max 5speed (I've heard that they are stronger than 4rth gens)
95-96 5speed (last option, must be low miles)
