power steering fluid

im sure this is a noob question, but i dont know. my car has about 147k miles on it, and as far as i can tell, still has the same fluid from when it was born. is there a need to flush out the old fluid and replace it, or does this stuff last forever?

The owner's manual doesn't say anything about changing it, but I do anyway. I like to think it helps keep the seals and power steering pump in good shape. An easy way to do it is to suck out the fluid from the reservoir using a turkey baster or Mity-vac. Fill the reservoir back up with Dextron-III ATF. As this does not remove all the fluid, you will have to repeat this several times over the course of a few days to get the fluid "mostly changed".

It only takes a few minutes to put in new fluid. Drive around as you usually would. Repeat a few times over the course of a few days. It's really easy.

I would definitely recommend replacing it, because just like any fluid it doesnt last forever. Not that difficult to do, and if you wanna know exactly how, go here:
