Sprint Springs Owners Help

Alright guys, when I got into Nismology's car on Weds afternoon (knowing that he's got Sprints and KYB AGX), I went in there expecting the ride to be a bumpy... what a miscomception ! The ride is just plain awesome paired with the AGXs (I forgot to ask him what he's got them dialed to). Maybe its because my struts on my 4x4 suspension are shot, but I felt that not only did his suspension handle better (obviously), but the ride itself was smoother than mine. We went over regular bumps on the road and the car, I only felt a thump on bumps that I know my car would have jerked on.

So I'm looking into these springs, however, after reading on the bible (http://maxmods.dyndns.org/) that some owners reported problems with the CV Joints due to the angle, and that Nismology's right axle shakes a little bit every now and then, is this a reoccuring problem among Sprint springs users or just coencidence(sp)? It's weird to me for I know fellow Maxima drivers that ride on coilovers and haven't had a problem with CV joint. Thanks in advance

I havent had any problems with my CV joints. I think mine were replaced before i got the car though. The sprint is a fair comfy ride for the most part. Im in Maryland and now thats its getting cold its beginning to get a hair bumpier. It handles like a dream. If i were to do it all over i would just save for D2s or Tein Basics. Shocks and struts will cost u every bit of 400, springs are baout 175. So about $200 more you can have a top of the line coilover setup. BUT thats just me. Good luck with what ever you decide to go with.

I lost an axle while riding on Sprints. The reason you though the ride was smoother was because fo the stiff struts.

Take a ride in a car with H&Rs and AGXs and you'll see how good it can get.

Sprints are too low for good handling, no matter what anyone says. They leave you with little to no suspension travel left which is just unsafe.

Thanks guys. Yea my axles were changed by the previous owner as well, the boots still look new even after a little over two years. Hey mzmtg, could your axle had gone bad from a broken boot and crap getting in there or are you sure it was due to the Sprint springs? If so how did you come to that conclusion? Don't take it personal if it sounds off, I just want to rule out all other possibilities. Thanx

I LOVED how my past 4th gen sat on Sprints. I was on STOCK SE struts...and I'll tell you honestly, the ride sucked. My passenger axle boot BUSTED open somehow....MAYBE because of how low it was.

Right now I'm on Eibach's and AGX's.....it's SOOO much more comfortable, but it's also about 1" higher than the Sprints. I might switch back to Sprint, if not....save up for D2s

I've never hit the bumpstops and the car has never felt unsafe around corners. The suspension is stiff enough to keep the car off the bumpstops. Can't speak for anyone else, but for me that's never been a problem, "no matter what anyone says". With my setup and good 235's my car flat out handles...

Its probably so more comfortable due to you having ridden the Sprints on the stock struts, a 2" drop on stock struts is just horrible.
Hmm, I wonder IF the Sprints ride so low as to create damage to the axles, I doubt it would be because of the angle at which they are exposed. Could it be that because they sit closer to the ground, they are exposed to more road crap than usual and thus the boots wear out faster and eventually road crap gets inside to ruin the axle? It makes sense, but it doesn't account for the people with coilovers that haven't experienced problems with axles going bad due to their low suspension. Gurus need help here, lol

I have Sprints with Tok Illum 5/5

For city driving w/potholes and speed bumps, the Sprints are harsh... made 10x worse when you're carrying passengers. Plus the car is really really low (I dunno how people coilovers do it).

For spirited driving, it holds down pretty well. However when braking and turning aggressively, my +45 225wide tire rubs the fender. I musta been creating some major G's cuz I have stock bump stops.

If i could do it again, I'd go back to Eibachs. Tried and true, stiff enuf @ the limit, yet high enuf to clear regular obstacles and compliant ride around town.

BTW, my Toks suck when it's below 50deg out. Rides like stock struts when it's cold.
