Car got hit while parked! *Pics Included*

Well last night, my g/f and I went bowling. While we were bowling, I get this announcement over the PA, owner of a Black Nissan Maxima please come to the counter. I'm thinking to myself, someone must have broken into my car because my friend has gotten the same announcement when someone jacked his stereo. So I walk up to the counter and this girl tells me that she's backed into my car. I didn't know how to react because the fact that she didn't just pull a hit and run and was wondering how much damage was done to the car. So I go outside and see this basketball size dent on my rear quarter panel. I don't get upset like I usually would if something even minor happens to my car, and she explains that it was all her fault etc.. She was even suprised at how I handled it, and told me that I was being polite about the situation. (she was 18yrs old btw). The police came and did all that good stuff involved with insurance. So guys, how much damage do you think this is and how much? I just got the starting problem fixed after 5 months of it and still was breaking in the new clutch and flywheel. Oh well, **** happens I guess. Thanks and sorry for the long rant..

Hey man, this is nothing....don't sweat it! if her insurance is paying for it take it a reputable autobody place (call the dealer to see who they recommend) and ask to see cars they have fixed to gauge their quality, they will be glad to give you a tour of their facility.
keep us posted.

i got hit in the same exact place...take a toilet plunger, a rubber head sledge hammer with a towel wrapped on it and pound it lightly out from the inside of the quater panel in the trunk, and use the plunger first to get as much of the dent out as possible.

Thanks for all the tips guys. I will probably just leave it as it is and have the bodyshop take care of it. A flood99 sorry to hear that it happened to you as well. The situation sucks and i'm semi-peeved but its nothing a night of drinking tonite can't fix.

I have the exact same thing on the other side but I have scratched and gauges from the door to the bumper too. I went to a high end body shop around me that I always go to and they were like I hope you have collision but I don't so they went with fixing the panel, blending the paint and the estimate from them was just under $3000. They said if they were doing it under insurance they would use all new parts and it would be closer to $4000-$4500. I was like uh ok and left. It sucks because its the rear quarter but I still think its way too much espcially since I already got the dent out.

i was driving past a car when it backed into my 87 camry(hit the side where the bumper wraps around about a foot from the back maybe), i couldn't even find where it was hit! i was expecting to see serious damage cause it was a good jolt, the other persons car has that rubber lining crap on a metal pos bumper and it was coming off and all scraped up after it hit me, lol, i couldnt help but laugh pulling away from that, they dont make bumbers like they used to! but anyway, at least she didn't run, just that makes you lucky

Ha ha it's happened to me four times...the right rear quarter, the right rear door, the right front door, and the right front quarter...every time I took it to a good bodyshop. As a result, the right side of my car is new, now I just need to get the little dings and scratches out of the driver side and get rid of the chips in the hood...

Also, props to the girl for being honest and props to Gen8888 for being cool about it.

Good luck!

Hey, whats up. Glad to hear that you finally fixed that starting problem. Im surprised that she came and told you. I would be excited if someone told me they hit my car, the 2 times mine got crashed into there was no one to be found Hope everything turns out okay with getting that fixed.

damn that sucks man. at least she didnt run. Find a good shop to do it also but it is alot of work to remove the rear quarter panel and weld a new one in. thats alot of spot welds. lol. a cheap shop wpuld just drill holes in the dent, pull the dent out as much as possible, and the use a filler to fill it. thats the cheapest way.
and at least your stillen rear valance is okay. off topic but what kind of exhaust is that?

Yeah, try the plunger and water trick...my brother's friend pulled a pretty good size dent out of his trunk with it.

Thanks everyone for replying with suggestions.... I plan on getting some estimates this coming Monday and hopefully get everything straightened out. The car she was driving was a 2000 Taurus. To answer the question about my exhaust, it is a MagnaFlow Muffler #14827 (i believe). I see that the estimates posted from people with a similar accident ranged from fairly low to over $1k. I guess this should be interesting on what the shop or adjuster comes up with for my car. And if in the future I accidentally tag an unattended car, I will remember this day and leave a note or track them down.. Unless there are no witnesses
