Part replaced but SES light still on
Part replaced but SES light still on
Got a P0302 check engine light - (EGR Valve). Got a new OEM part installed. Cleared the ECU but 12 miles later the light came back on with the same code.
I double, triple checked all the connectors and hoses and everything is snug.
Anything you guys think i may have overlooked or missing?

The thing you have to remember for a lot of these emission system related codes is that another sensor can fail and throw a code that points to a different component in the system.
The FSMs detail diagnostic procedures for each code to isolate the component that is malfunctioning.
I have FSMs for 96 & 98. Your max is a 99. There are some differences in the EGR systems between 98 & 99.
I can check to see if that code is common between them and what the procedure is.

I think what eng92 mentioned is very true. The components that make up the emissions system in our cars are interrelated and quite complex. Speaking of, the EGR system is made of several components itself. There is the EGR valve, EGR control solenoid, the EGR control backpressure transducer valve and the EGR temperature sensor.
Code 0302 is not specific for the EGR valve itself. Code 0515 is for the EGR valve or its circuit. Code 0302 is insufficient or excessive flow to the EGR valve.
I have had this same code come and go for some time now. I believe this indicates a vacuum problem to the EGR valve. The hoses that connect to the EGR valve are either clogged or leaking and not delivering enough vacuum to the valve, causing it to not operate correctly.
So in your case, your old valve was probably still good, there's just not enough vacuum to make it work correctly. To test, remove the hose(s) while the car is running and place your finger over the end of the hose to see if there is vacuum present. If there isn't or it is weak, you should clean it with a wire brush.

I was mistaken. My light is still on.
"knight71" is the solenoid valve a different part? Becuase i changed the whole egr unit that the dealer sells and it is a no go.
i am going to take to "VGinMIA" and try out the vacuum lines.
Let you know of the progress.

The above page is very useful in EGR related problems..Like I said EGR solenoid valve is the culprit..The above link will tell u everything u need to know..Good luck!

No probs..I know what you're going through...It took almost a month for me to finger this one out..local mechanics were confused..I was very frustrated since my car was driving like a 4 cylinder..so finally I decided to go to the stealership. With all their high tech equiqment they fixed my problem.

I'm curious...how many miles on your '99? I'd be surprised to know you're experiencing EGR problems at any thing below 100k. Also, how much was the EGR valve at the stealership? Hopefully replacing the solenoid valve will cure your problem. Let us know what happens...
I looked more in detail at the EGR system and all I can say is "wow" what a maze of vacuum hoses! Although my MIL is not currently on it has been on in the past (with code 0302 present) so I decided to check things out the other day. When I was in there I noticed a strong air leak coming from the EGR valve area. It turns out the leak is coming from the bottom of the EGR backpressure transducer valve. There is a metal pipe that comes from the EGR valve (I believe) and connects to the BPT valve via a one inch hose at the bottom. The hose dried out over time, disintegrated and fell off. The interesting thing is although this is a vacuum leak, (causing the EGR to not function properly) the MIL is not on. The EGR valve and the BPT valve look almost identical and are right next to each other. I had to go to a local junker to see where the pipe led since I wasn't sure. I guess the vacuum leak is expected as I have 148k miles on my car. The car at the junker had 130k and the one inch hose was barely on there. in my opinion if your car has high mileage, you should just replace the vacuum hoses instead of cleaning them. Sorry for the rant but this may be helpful...

thanks VGinMIA
i have 145k miles on the car.
Autozone was selling me an EGR valve (generic brand) for $115 but i got an OEM part from Jerry Rome Nissan for $102. Good old JR.
Anyways, i haven't been able to get the right solenoid valve because apparently there are six different designs. So i have to wait till wednesday for my local dealership to get the right part. That cost me $65.
My vacuum hoses were fine.
