HID beam pattern

I was looking at my neighbors '03 Max and '05 Altima SE-R and with the HIDs, the beam pattern is great for not having projectors. How are they able to make the beam pattern and cutoff so nice and we need projectors to do that?

Because their housing was designed for HIDs while our housing is for halogen bulbs.

Their HID housings designed from the factory. The reflector is different and so it the positioning of the HID bulbs as compared to our halogen reflectors and bulbs. Manufacturers of HID headlights spend millions of dollars and countless hours to develop them...thus the beautiful beam patterns. That's why sticking in a rebased 9004 HID bulb will never yield the same beam pattern and output. That's also why I did this to my maxima: great look plus the beam pattern and output of factory equipped HID cars.
