engine losing power while idle and driving (wet sparkplugs?)

when im stopped at a red light i notice that the engine starts vibrating a little and the rpms are going up - down - up - down ever so slightly

when i put it in neutral or park i do not feel the vibration but the rpms continue to fluctuate a little

then when im driving im trying to accelerate and it sporadically loses power and vibrates more

what could be the problem? its raining here in philadelphia, and it hasn't in awhile someone told me it could be the spark plugs

i have it in a garage now drying off, where are the spark plugs, how can i test/dry them, or what else could it be

thanks

Your spark plugs arent wet. They can't get wet.

One of your ignition coils is flaking out.

then why did i have 2 different mechanics tell me that rain could be the problem?

are you sure its a coil, couldnt it be a cylinder misfiring or a leak somewhere?

Cylinder misfiring IS a bad coil...most likely anyway.

Yeah I had the same prob a few months ago. The engine would chug and even sometimes die at a red light. Got to where I was throwing it into neutral at every red light and holding the RPM's up above 1500 just to keep it running. I thought I had an ignition prob or bad gas. PapaSmurf told me to replace the PCV. Did that, reset the ECU and it worked like a champ! The thing I learned from this was don't overlook the little stuff.

well i dont have problems with it dying at all, its just annoying
i dont have to give it gas to keep it going, its more or less just cycling up and down sprodicially - so i dont know if that does anything different

if it is a coil, how much to fix

also, how long is it safe for me to drive it like this?

could it be an EGR valve problem?

You guys aren't going to believe this but i posted the other day about having a misfire and haven't been able to solve it, gonna meet Jatan to Tomorrow to look at my car. I was reading this before i went to lunch and took Str8 Maxn it's advice and went to the auto part store picked up a pcv valve and replaced it. It made about an 80% difference on how its running now.
Still a very slight hesitation but nothing like the way it was before. Thank you Str8 Maxn it! You really made my day. Still gonna meet with JaTan tomorrow but now my car is running much better.

yea i just saw another new thread complaining about this, that makes 3 already today including mine, oh well time to beat a dead horse

i just took it to my mechanic and he keeps telling me its from all the rain and that it is screwing up the coils or somthing

he wants me to see what happens on a dry day because he couldnt really reproduce it in the shop, although as soon as i drove it away it started doing it again - so i dont really accept his solution

my engine shouldnt be misfiring just because its raining out ya know

i'm thinking maybe i should take it to another mechanic, either way he said it doesnt hurt nothin so im just gonna drive it like this for the weekend

New coils are 50-60 bucks a piece. Easy to replace yourself.

The only thing you need to lift up and out is your mechanic - don't let him touch your car.

A faulty TPS will cause your idle speed to hunt as well.

Your mechanic is a tard.. No way our plugs can get wet where there at.. Even if I wash my engine they cant get wet with the nissan cover in the way.. And the rear banks, not even if joo try

Sounds like a bad coil like everyone says.. Were haunted by those problems... Well mostly 99's

Ask your mechanic if it could be a cracked distributor cap - a cracked distributor cap can cause the symptoms you describe in wet/humid weather... that will seperate the men from the boys

For those of you know the obvious error in my statement - I know what I wrote and I wrote it intentionally....
