help with tranny

I have a 97gxe auto with scer, y-pipe, and exhaust. Starting today i had problems with my tranny. It won't go in reverse, 1st gear is really weak, 2nd and 4th won't go above 2500 rpms, but 3rd gear runs fine. Wondering if anybody else has had similar problems or knows what i might be able to do to fix it. Maybe the tranny doesn't like the scer?...i don't drive it hard on a regular basis either. Thanks for the help

thanks for the info, i'm checkin it out. If my tranny was gone, would it still be able to go through the rest of the gears though? One of my friends said it might be going into a "safe mode" by locking up after 2500 rpms. Not sure what this means though.

Well in my car it seems rarely for gears to go past 2500 rpm unless u press the **** out of the gas pedal. But then again my knock sensor is broken so that might be the case.

I would blame your MAF but I dont see why your reverse would be acting up as well.. So thats eliminated... Good luck with that.. You might have to goto a stealership to get a diagnosis..

Mine did the same exact thing just before they all locked up. The only gear I had was third. It wouldn't roll through the gears, but rather just stay in third all the time. I had to get my tranny rebuilt after that.

well, got a uhaul truck and trailer and got the car back to atlanta and in the shop. Diagnostic test showed problems with low and high gears, as well as reverse, bad probs...anyways, gettin the tranny rebuilt. The mechanic said he could calibrate the vb for firmer shifts (similar to the mobiltek vb mod?) any opinions on going this route? Also anything that would be good to do while the tranny is out to help prevent this from happening again?

You could use redline fluids. Also having a quality flush and fill done once a year will help.

How much is this costing you? just curious because after extensive reading on the org, ive come to the conclusion ill be replacing my tranny when the differential bearing goes soon or later.

me too, I see more and more (who I think) org memeber driving around here in duluth.

I saw a rosewood 4th gen with CF altezzas but only on the outside shaved trunk. looked kinda good.

Maybe a tranny shop would take it apart and look at it for you, that is a weird problem, and if specific gears act up then its a good sign the tranny or could be a problem with your clutch disk, pressure plate, or the release bearing.
