Passing cars down the family line

I've noticed that alot of you guys bought your maximas from a family member, such as your mom, dad, brothers or sisters. How does that usually work out...such as price wise or negotiations? I ask this question because my family is quite different. For example, I had 3 cars passed down from my dad to me (free of charge), my mom gave her Altima to my sister, and several years ago, I just gave my old 1993 Accord to my brother. My other younger brother will be getting my '00 Civic from me also this December. I guess in our family, all is good if the cars stay in the family. Also, to me personally, it would feel wierd if I my dad was to charge me several grands for his cars, likewise me charging my broke-*ss brother for mine. Just curious here!

my Max was handed down from my brother to me. However I'm in the middle of a war w/ him b/c he's threatening to take the car back, esp. after I spent $1,000 on maintenance / repairs. This is considering the fact that he's negligent. Besides, he drives an '04 BMW X3, so this puzzles me as to why he would want a 6 y/o car w/ over 113K on it back where he leased an X3 w/ far fewer miles on it.

i dont let money come between me and my family, i gave my sister my maxima, i paid $6300 for it, then i needed a car obviously, so i got myself a $3900 maxima SE, i took a hit because i settled for a car with much higher mileage and needed all maintenance. when i need her help financially, shell probalby help me out, and vice versa.

I'm glad some of you share the same family experience. Money isn't an issue when it comes to family matters, I guess.

your sis is lucky to get a fairly new car at 16 .. my 1st car at 16 was an '87 Olds Toronado, was my dad's at 1st, then handed down to my older sis (now lives in Chicago), then to me. Too expensive and complicated to fix since nearly everything in that car was computerized, even the dash.

At least your first car at 16 was newer than mine. My first car when I turned 16 and just got my driver's license was a 1982 Honda Accord sedan....everything manual. Now that I think about it, that car sucks big time, but considering I was 16 and got my own car, it was cool as ever. Even the girls started to like me more...hahhaha!

My story is a little interesting. I bought a 91 Integra LS from my aunt when I was 16 for a little over $1,700. I drove it through high school and went I went to college, I left it at home. My sister needed a car through her high school year so I gave it to my parents for her. I didn't need the car nor did I want to be paying insurance on a car I wasn't driving. Anyway, during my second year of college, I began working again and needed a car. My parents had just purchased a Rav4 and a minivan so their garage was getting cluttered. Lo and behold, the Maxima became mine. I'm the third owner and it's been passed from my grandfather to my father to me. They did a good bit of front end damage to her (paint chips and scrapes) and neglected her in regards to maintenance. I spent the first 5,000 miles performing needed maintenance then I started modding.

I think back on the days I had the Toronado, no regrets for it. That thing would always stall on me w/o warning, and in some cases, it wouldn't re-start until after 5 cranks. I always had belt noise no matter how old/new the belts were, and a few times the belt (serpentine, drove everything) slipped off w/o warning.

I would have had my moms 98 accord v6 passed down to me free of charge, but she sold it when my dad passed away and drove his 01 toyota highlander (no way she was going to give me that.) She agreed to pay for my first car though (my max) and now she drives an 05 benz so i doubt il be getting that handed down... Although one of my friends dad passed down his 01 m5 to him (lucky ****) But as most of you say, money isnt really an object for our family
