I just bought 235/45-17 kumhos for my Max, The tireguy recommended 32 PSI pressure but it seems too low when the max pressure recommended is 44 PSI. What do you guys run?

32.!

max pressure is the pressure before your tire blow up , so why you want to go that high?

plus you may actually lose grip if you inflate it too high

Tire pressures are NEVER gotten off of the side wall of the tire. The tire pressure that gets put into the tires is what the CAR manufacturer suggests, which in the Maxima's case, is about 29-31 PSI cold.

whats the point of putting a recommended tire pressure on the tire if you can only use the manufacturers spec.

for people that carry heavier loads for instance can put more air in to help keep the vehicle from swaying too much. Usually people with trucks would do this. That,s one reason.

Tire manufacturers in general do not design a general tire size e.g. 235/45-17 for a particular car, but rather for a group of cars. They don't check to make sure that the tires handling characteristics mesh with a particular models suspension. The car manufacturers have extensively tested their particular model with a certain tire size, and with a certain tire pressure, so that they know how their car will handle. For example, Ford suggested a tire pressure of 26 PSI for their last generation Explorer's tires. Why? They found that the car was less likely to fishtail and get to be unstable with the tires at that pressure, as opposed to 32 PSI. If you went with the 'suggested tire pressure' from the tire manufacturer, the car would handle noticably different from what car manufacturer suggested.

I'll condense the information. It's repeating but then again most will miss it.

The inflation rates on the sides of the tire represent the MAXIMUM rated tire pressure for that tire. It's not the recommended tire pressure for your car.

The recommended tire pressure for the front/rear can be found it one or all of the following places. Your owners manual, in the glove compartment or inside the door jamp of the car.
