I've got one sitting at home, but I haven't put it on because I was not sure if it would be good or bad for the engine.

what i read

that little filter helps the crank case to breath free'er ;instead of geting airfrom the filter & a chance of it(oil) coming back to your throttle body.
Check out k&n site I think thas where I read that

The idea is that rather than venting the crankcase to the intake manifold, just vent it to the atmosphere through a filter. (Just like they did it in the old days.) This would keep the inside of intake manifold cleaner. You are also commiting a federal crime by doing this, by tampering with the emmision's system. It will not provide any immedate increase in power either.

Just wondering, wouldn't the air from in the engine bay be much hotter than the air coming from the intake. So wouldn't it be better to have the cooler air. This is why I have not put mine on yet and the only reason I got it is because a shop was going out of business and I got it for $4 dollars

The crakcase has to be vented to prevent large internal pressure fluctuations as the pistons go up and down (changing the internal volume of the crankcase). The temperture of the air that it is vented into has, as they say, "nothing to do with anything".
