whats with the knock sensor code??

I checked the codes on my 96 max se and got the knock sensor code. I do not notice any problem with the way the car drives though. The reason i checked codes was because it wasn't starting and then all of the sudden it started and has no probs....besides the point.

Anyways, I see a lot of people with this knock sensor code. Does everyone get that? Does it mean anything? a shop told me $220 for the part. At that cost I'm not gonna change it since i have no problem.

What is your experience with knock sensors? knock sensor wiring harness?

You can get the part for 100 bucks or so off Ebay and change it yourself. Read the stickies for the how-to instructions.

knock sensor affects timing which drastically slows down your car. If you dont notice it, you are probably just used to it. The way how you feel gains from a y-pipe is how u feel loss from a knock sensor. Definitely noticeable but wont kill the car just slow it down and might affect gas mileage? if its bad and u can afford the part, change it, you'll feel better bringing back some of that stock hp

read stickies. this has been discussed a million times and a half.

Hey Mr. 1223 posts, where is the sticky?

and thanks delacruz... but i don't think I'm ready to make the purchase yet. I still want to learn more about this part/system/history before throwing parts at the car. Could be as simple as a bad electrical connection, ya know???

So, where is this sticky with knock sensor info?

Thanks Dallas, it is people like you who add value to this website for people like me who occasionally overlook things when combing through page after page of stickies.

Thanks Again...................

Btw i have a KS code as well and haven't noticed anything REALLY bad happening. My code popped up after the car wouldn't start for like 10 secs. I stopped and turned the key again, it started up and haven't had any problems but my Check engine light being on. I got another KS coming in a few days and i'll let you know what differences i feel.
