Considering getting a Passport 8500 detector. Any hidden installs?
I dont want to get the v1, too much money for me. I speed... Ever since my cluster went out, i speed even more. (I look at the speedometer and im like hrmm im only going 40, when im going 80) Yeauuuh! I know it wont get me out of all the tickets, but it would be nice to have a heads up. Ive driven 2 years without getting pulled over from speeding. Guess it helps when your dad was a cop and you patrolled arround with him when you were a kid. So you know where they hide and what to watch out for. But any cool installs for the 8500, feel free to post here. Also, how bad is it to put it behind the tint strip? I have limo tent on my back window. :X

I don't have a picture handy, but I got a clip to mount my Passport 8500 on my passenger visor. You can see it if you look for it (easier from behind), but overall it hides it pretty well. I also prefer not to have the suction cups on the windshield because even if you don't have your detector in the car people know you have one.

I have the 7500, it works great. If cops give you a hard time about it you can always do it back to them, and say that they pulled you over just because of it. The descriminatino card is always a nice one.
PS. works better if your a minority, or a teen.

well, you know if you get pulled over with a radar detector or anything else you can just have an envolope addressed to your self and slip it in there, and it becomes gov't property and they have to get a warrant to open it, which i doubt they will for a radar detector.

Radar goes through tint without like light goes through water, unless your tint is 100 ft thick i wouldn't worry about it, i had 3% tint all the way around any my passport 8500 hardwired into the back of my cig lighter (hidden wire throught the a pillar) and it worked excellently. I just got another max 2 weeks ago and i'm still using the same 8500 (which IMHO is the best radar detector period, and motortrend and car and driver both agree). I plan on hardwiring mine again in my new max tomorrow. Oh and btw unless you live in a state where radar detectors are illegal what is everyone talkin about? (they aren't illegal in tx are they?)

the passport 8500 x50 did just as well as the v1 if not better. the only downside of the v1 is the price. in the end it all comes down to how much you want to spend.
i am very satisfied with my x50. yes the arrows of the v1 would come in handy but all you need to know is that they are there. dont matter from what direction. thats what the meter is for.

honestly richard, try saying that after owning a V1. i have had both, now i own a passport instead of a v1. the only reason i have the passport now is that it was given to me as a present, after i sold my v1 in need for money, but if i had a choice, i would totally get the v1 again. after going with arrows, its very hard to go back to no arrows. its like once you go black, you cant go back haha.
arrows are very helpful, and yes, price is an issue, but for me, i'd rather spend that extra 70 dollars on the v1, but that is me.
x50, many people say that it performed just like the v1 or even better, but not true. i have the older passport, and it was hooked up with the new version x50, and the x50 did not outperform the passport 8500 at all. the v1 was outperforming my 8500 from v1 detecting 10 signals which passport 8500 would detect from 7-8 at times and 9 most of the times. v1 i would say is way more sensitive, but its all about taste. are we willing to pay 300+ TAX for the x50 or 399 for the v1? at least we can get the x50 for cheap with a hook up.
the passports are not bad, but definately does not outperform the valentine 1.

I've used both as i said before, and i'm also a valet, and i can say hands down that everyone who come into where i work and valets and has a car thats worth more than 70K or is fast in any way has a passport 8500 (makes me proud), and these are people that can obviously afford the $70 price difference. Arrows are cool don't get me wrong but are you gonna not slow down when it goes off because the radar is coming from a certain direction? If you don't you'll probably be getting a ticket. And i'n not just blowing smoke, about 2-3 issues ago motortrend voted it the best radar detector available period after testing all the popular models, if i remember right the only thing the V1 outproformed the 8500 in was K band, which is not as previlant anymore as Ka. Also my 8500 will warn me 5 miles!!! away on a straight road like say I-95 of a a state trooper using Ka coming in the opposite direction, even if the V1 could beat that, do you need to? You can slow down from 140 to 0 and get back to 140 and back to 0 again in 5 miles... (exaggeration) but u get the idea.

here's one. No instructions though. I'd love to do this, but I'm not sure I have the ***** to take apart my $200+ 8500.

I own a Passport X50, deff one of the best ones out there. I recieve a HUGE amount of warning time when it comes to KA. That's probably the most used in my area, so it has saved me out of a lot of tickets. LASER also has good timing aswell, but when it comes to LASER, you only have at most 3 seconds of reaction time, usually its only 1 or 2 seconds. Any other radar detector would give little or no warning with LASER.
