car remote gone crazy

help, my car remote is not responding at all, it started to happen lately where i had to press a couple of times for it to respond, i replaced the batteries, but i think its done for. i have to unlock my car with the keys and the alarm always go off and i don't know how to turn it off, and the car won't start without it being unlocked by the remote. it took me ten minutes to finally start the car today. i have an aftermarket remote, not sure which one, it came with the car when i bought it. it says ATV1 on the remote. can i replace just the remote or the whole alarm system. i don't think i can deal with this everyday. plz help, thanks

one more thing, the FCC ID is ELV143, i do not know what alarm is in the car, can i just buy a direct replacement on the remote? i do not know much about car alarms and remote systems. sorry

umm...i happen to know from first hand experience that it's not $25. it's actually more like $125 for a new remote. which you program yourself (easy to do). i completely shattered mine so i went to a nissan dealership and about a new one and that's how much it costs.

SunySB83,
This happened to me less than a week ago... What I did was took the remote apart(it is simply held together by clicking pieces). Take a flathead screwdriver and pry it apart. Clean the inside rubber part with water and free it of all dust. DO NOT use water on the electrical circuit! Blow off the electrical part as best you can. Now put it all back together the same way you took it apart. It surprised me that this actually worked, and hopefully it works for you. I think sometimes the inside of the remote get misaligned or something. Good luck and let me know if it works out.

well, if you don't want to hear it you could at least disconnect the horn. you could also try taking the 5th top relay out on the driver side fender for the theft warning.

i believe but i may be wrong on this...i think the brain of the alarm is located in the trunk by the antenna...i used to have the same problem..took about 10 minutes and some upset neighbors to shut the alarm off and start it up. dealership wanted to charge me $90 for each remote (both of mine were dead). ended up buying one used and one brand new off of ebay for a total of about $75 shipped
