Suspension Lowering Questions

Hey guys, ive been itching to lower my maxima for about a year now, Ive finally decided to do it. I have a 1997 GXE, with 17 x 7.0 inch aftermarket rims, with 225 50 R17 futura tires. I wanted to know if anyone could help me determine how low of a drop i can go. I want between a 1.5 or 1.7 inch drop. Other, than simply getting under the car with a tape measure and flashlight, what else should I do? I dont want my tires to rub when i turn. According to the suspension aftermarket retail I think I can go as low as 2 inches front and back. But before I order any and get screwed with thier no return policy, i wanted to hear from you guys. THANKS
