Can anyone help with an irratic idle?

I'm having an idle problem with my '95 GLE that just got worse today. It started with an occasional idle at 1,500 rpm that I could get to go down by tapping the gas (as if kicking down an old carbureted car with a choke). Today I had to remove the intake to do some other work on the car and decided to clean the throttle body while I had if off. Now I have a totally crazy idle that is idling at 1,500rpm half the time, and the rest of the time it will drop to 1,000rpm when I push the clutch in, but not drop to normal idle (approx. 700rpm) until the car comes almost to a stop.

Does anyone know what is going on with this? A high idle was caused by a bad coolant temp. sensor in one old car I had, and caused by a bad air-idle control valve in another. But I also realize it could be a dying throttle position sensor. Any advice? The fact that it is idling at 1,500rpm is suspicious, since this is the cold-engine idle rpm. This makes me think its the coolant temp sensor.

Also, is it normal for the idle to first drop to 1,000rpm when you push in the clutch and not drop to normal idle until the car almost stops rolling (like, 5mph)? I can't remember if it did this before today or not. Since I never noticed it before DON"T think it reacted like this before.

Thanks,

GregS

p.s., no check engine light.

I had the same problem with my idle being up so high after I cleaned the tb, but after like a week or so it went down. Now its back to normal. I know you can adjust the idle buy turning the screw begind the tb.

I am actually having the exact same problem but I got a 04 03 code for tps. I checked with ohm meter and get no movement whatsoever. time to replace my tps.

O.K., so I'll check the TPS tonight. Anyone else with experiences or advice?

Thanks,

Greg

Clean out the IAC valve and then reset the idle speed following the procedure in your haynes manual.

Just a note

Yes. I had something similar. I cleaned out the tb, then the injectors with Seafoam, then cleaned the crank case with Deep Creep. I have 230,000 miles on my car and needed to do it. I have done at least 3 treatments and have gotten much success. If you have an older model car like yours, I would suggest doing so. If you go through the Brake Booster, you will be fine.

Spray Deep Creep into the spark plug holes and leave it. Must do all of this with a WARM ENGINE. No one reads the back of the bottle.
