Buying my first Max.

I am looking into buying a 4th generation max (1995 GLE), it currently has 106,000 miles, dealer is asking 4995. Went and drove the car, the ride is great. I am wondering what I should be looking for and if this is a good buy. Leather is pristine, all options work. Let me know

Chances are the knock sensor is dead. Read the sticky about checking the ECU codes for yourself. Even if the check engine light is not on, the knock sensor code may be stored.

If you find it, have them knock $100 off the price for a new sensor.

Other than that, there aren't really any specific problems to look out for. As long as you have had an independent mechanic check it out in general, go for it.

106k miles is just getting broken in. My 1995 GXE has over 200k on it and is going strong.

Better yet have them knock off $200 because their service books will tell them it will cost like $400 to replace. You can do it for $100 though.
