What are my chances??

THe problem is I keep getting beef from a couple of my friends that drive 04 Focus SVT's and they said that my V6 grocery ghetter sedan will not be any competion against their SVT. Im tired of taking crap from them so i decided to race them next weekend at the track of course if its not closed. My car is a 97 Max 5spd,with the folowing performance mods: Clutchmasters FX300 clutch kit Fidanza flywheel and Warpspeed y & b pipe with Maganflow muffler.
What are my chances against a bone stock SVT?

I think it depends more on the drivers and the reaction times. If you are a really good driver you have a pretty good chance. The SVT that I got a ride in was not ridiculous fast, but you never know. Good luck.

i agree, if you know how to launch your car, and get a good 60', you should be able to smoke them. be sure to run the Drop Resistor mod though, it helps me a lot. like, 1.7 seconds a lot

You'll win if you can keep your wheel spin to a minimum! I've gone against a coupel of those and only loose by a hair when I show off my tire burning skills! So launch softly and keep that traction and its all yours! I usually win by a car length or more...Good luck!

From what I heard, SVT only did minor upgrades for Focus, as in wheels, body kits and all other stuff, but they decided to not cranck up the engine, which is pretty sad.

Original focus has about ~151hp/154tq, and SVT has ~170hp/145tq

P.S.: there's a new focus coming out w/V8 in it, now THAT should be interesting o.O

This is not true at all. That means if I had run the drop resistor mod on my car when it was stock, I would have been able to run 14.9 in the quarter (currently 15.6).

NO deezo, that will make you run 13.9 in the quarter. That's almost as fast as the sti. Phew, speaking of cheap and fast mod. I think RockfordMax is just being sarcastic.

Well i couldnt wait till the weekend so i called him up and we met last night on the highway. When i first saw him he was like " ready to get smoked?" I started laughing and on 3 beeps we went at it from a 25 mph roll. In 2nd i had half a car in front, 3rd about a car, 4th he could see my tails then i stopped cause i didnt want to get busted. After the race he just did a flyby on me and never called me since. I had the biggest smurk on my face after smoking him cause usually the one that always talks smack ends up loosing . I dont encourage anyone to dry this at home KEEP IT SAFE AND AT THE TRACK!

Read all the threads, he already raced him, and launching was not an issue as they went from 25mph+

No there isnt, that was a specially built Focus that you can build on your own.. all the parts are available for it. It was in Motor Trend a few months back and they compared it to a Lambo Gallardo I think.

True,

I believe it's even RWD conversion as well, along with the V8, but they're not going to mass produce a Focus V8, that's almost an oxymororn.

Thats exactly what it was, a Ford crate motor and RWD conversion you can buy... but there sure as hell isnt going to be a mass produced V8 Focus. It is an oxymoron

Your car should be faster than his, and you should beat him if you drive well. (see: good launch).

A 5spd 97 SE with your mods should be able to break into the 14's.
