I'm starting to get into racing, and i was wondering if driving the car hard like hurt the engine in the long run? Like pushing all the way on acceleration. I have a Stock 97 GLE Auto. What problem may i encounter? What can I do to prevent things from happening?

engine

Your engine will likely last the life of the car. Transmission is another story. I was hard as anything on mine and no problems, but others have had worse luck with automatics.

why get the tranny cooler? i just ask because with the few cars i had, i drove them all hard to its limits but never came to any problems. will this prolong the life of the tranny?

The tranny cooler will help extend the life of your transmission by keeping the fluid cooler, thereby allowing it to do it's job more efficiently, and helping to prevent the breakdown of the fluid and seals.

the engine

is one tough sob it aint gonna go out. the tranny on the other hand will go out. i race the hell out my car powerbraked like crazy and drove hard in the city and gotta get a new tranny in less than a year. after i get my tranny rebuilt im going 100% redline d4 atf, biggest tranny cooler i can fit too i gonna put the trans go shift kit in too till i pay off some debt and buy dons valve body. if your going to race your auto get the vb every car i raced was fricken stick and the lag on my tranny made me lose alot of races. i wait for my car to shift and they start walkin on me =[
