first time ever since I bought my 95 max brand new 9 years ago I got a check engine light at 37k miles
I pulled 0304 and 1008 knock sensor and evap can purge valve.
could these 2 be related ie one causing the other?.
anyway this occured after about 1 week after putting in a tank of 93 octane here in texas . i just drove here from salt lake city no problems on the way but in salt lake i use the highest octane which is only 91 octane. maybe too much octane after a few years of using 91?. any help is welcome. also it rained like heck here last week and i did drive through lots of deep puddles. but even with the cel lit the car seems to run as normal. or should i just reset it and see if the codes pop back up?

I think the KS could be caused by the evap. Fix the evap and reset the codes. Check the codes again even if the light doesn't come back on as the KS won't set of the light. The higher octane didn't cause it.
Could have, but probably not. I've heard the evap can cause the KS so definetely fix that first. The KS has a huge impact on performance and some on gas mileage so if it still reads bad after the evap is fixed you should fix it. It's not very hard at all and the part only costs $100. The dealer would charge alot for labor but they do it the time consuming way and many members have done it the way detailed in the faqs.
I have no personal experience with the evap system, but I believe there is a way to clean it rather than replace it. This would be cheaper. It may be in the faqs (I can't remember) or I'm sure somebody else could help you.
