Not sure why but my remote and the door push button can't open the trunk on my 97 Max. It used to work before but now only opens with the key. I have checked the switch/lever inside the trunk that engages/disengages the remote lock. There is a "tuc" noise from the trunk lock when I try to open it with the remote or door button. I also tried spraying WD40 on the lock. Any ideas...

 

Have someone lift on the trunk while you push the button. Sometimes my trunk is "too heavy" to open without some help (like when it's snowing).

 

You've probably have the trunk lock on. Its on the inside of the trunk. Check your owners manual for the picture.

yup its the trunk lock, same thing happened to me, i just opened the trunk with the key and flipped the slider, described in the stickies i believe, and eveyrthing was cool

 

Thanks for your suggestions guys but as I mentioned in my thread I have already checked the slider switch in the trunk and it is not engaged/locked. I still can't open the trunk without the key. Any other suggestions...

 

Did your Max ever get into a rear end collision before? Maybe the latch wasn't installed correctly and isn't lining up properly? Maybe the trunk latch is broken? Just guessing.

yes, there is a clic sound when I try to open it with the remote/door button... and yes, it used to work and then just stopped working. I did notice that inside the lock there is a little pin that probably is the lock lever. It is covered with hard black plastic and that plastic is stripped at one corner on the end. My guess is that the lock was not lining properly with the lid and over the time that plastic sleeve got stripped and can no longer unlock the lid.

 

My trunk stays shut when I open it. It's like glued on or something and I usually have to use some force to open it up. WD40 would help?
