Locking/Non-Locking Differential...

I'm trying to replace my CV axle and the parts place asked me if I had a locking differential or traction control. I had no clue. How can you tell?? Please help, thanks.

check the second row of your vin plate. if the twelfth letter is N AND you have a manual, you might have it. if either of those things IS NOT true, you don't. not sure how to check if you do have both those things, though, apart from actually spinning your tires while a friend watches to see if they gain traction at the same time.

You're from Canada? You very well could. The US version of the maxima did not, but I believe the Canadian version did.

I was told that if I jacked up the front end and spun one wheel, if the other wheel spins too, that means I have a locking differential. Is this true?

Ok..go to the other post..I explained there. Left side under hood on firewall, tranny code. If it has V in it you have LSD (locking), if no V or if it has an A you do not have locking diff.

the jack trick, if they spin the same way, LSD, if they spin opposite ways, no LSD. either way, theyre both gonna spin.
