96 maxima 5spd ECU in my 96 5spd I30....7 codes

Sold my JWT 5spd I30 ECU and replaced it with a stock 96 maxima 5spd ECU. Car runs and drives fine, but I pulled 7 different codes. Not a big deal but I have to get emission tested asap.

13-2 Map/baro SW solenoid valve

8-1 Vacuum cut bypass valve

8-7 & 10-8 Evap canister purge control

4-2 Fuel tank temp sensor

8-3 absolute pressure sensor

The car has not been driven for 2 weeks untill tonight. I had the intake manifold off, headers and y-pipe removed. I don't even know where to start with some of these. Don't know which ones might be a connection I missed or which ones might be I30-Maxima differences.

did you put the vacuum lines to the evap purge on the maxima manifold?

did everything fit up correctly?

how long did it take to do the rest?

I think that I might be able to come over again on friday if you want some help troubleshooting. I will bring my 96 auto ecu to see the discrepancies.

try to reset the ecu with a diagnostic tool and then see if they come back again.

Yes, I got the vacuum line from the evap to manifold on.

everything fit fine and car runs good

To put the y-pipe and manifold back on took about 2hrs on Saturday night and 2hrs on Monday night.

I reset the light, will see if it comes back tomorrow but I am sure they will.

I think the evap code is because the I30 evap is different, or at least it is in a different location. My evap is not on the intake manifold.

he absolute pressure sensor I believe is the small sensor on the stock air scoop? Can anybody confirm that.

Fuel temps sensor...go me

Map/boro....got me

vacuum cut bypass....got me

Did the cd I gave you work? All your answers are in there. Also, how sure are you the ECU is from a 96? I guess you could always DOUBLE check with my ECU to make sure.

I am mostly going by the fact that they guy told me it was a 96. Same guy who bought my 96 JWT ECU. I bought his.

It it was not a 96, then I would be getting other codes like the rear o2 sensor code.

Most of the codes are evap codes, which makes sense because that is one main difference between an I30 and a maxima.

evap is in the back left side of the car. that could be different and be throwing a code.

It's the ECU. I went back over my work and every thing is fine. I still want to check my vacuum but I couldn't find my gauge. I am just going to find me a 96 I30 5spd ECU and sell this one.

On my old on or on this maxima ECU? The maxima ECU is A18 C84 EYO...don't know if that is the part # or not.

I called around for a 96 5psd I30 ECU, but am real leary about ordering one. I don't have the part # of my old one but hopefully the guy I sold mine to will get back to me with it. I just don't trust these online junkyards. Too many times people get the wrong ECU. Either the wrong year or the wrong tranny type. They won't give me the VIN of the car that the ECU came from, they said they are not allowed to because people use the VIN's for illegal purposes.

There are several 96 I30 5psd ECU's on www.car-parts.com. I guess I will just have to try my luck and get one of them and see what happens

Anybody want a 96 5spd Maxima ECU...good for reprograming!

I just ordered a ECU last week from a 96 I30 5 speed and the part number was A18-C84-EYO.
Thats the same part number as a 96 Maxima SE 5 speed ecu.
When I was hunting for ECU's I found that most 96 5 speed SE maxima's have either the A18-C84-EYO or A18-C84-EX8. So if that SE ecu isnt working for you, may want to stay away from the EX8 one also.
Thats weird though, the ECU I ordered and just recieved is the EYO part number, the same that your using and it was taken from an I30 supposdly. Thats what the reciept and VIN says.

I should be getting the #'s off my old ECU soon, so we will see. Are you sure that those #'s we are quoting are the part #'s? One place I talked to was using some other # of the ECU.

I am sure that the A18-C84-EYO can not be for both the 96 5spd Maxima and I30. If it was then I wouldn't have all these codes. Maxima's and I30 are almost the same car, but alot of the vacuum lines and emissioin stuff is different. This was very evident when I put a maxima motor in my car.

A18-C82 EN5 or A18-C82 EN7 seems to be the most common #'s for the 5spd I30 ECU's

I dont know, thats what I was told. I'll ask a buddy of mine thats a mechanic at Infiniti and see what he says. I wouldnt think they would be same neither.

*edit*
Just spoke to my friend. He says they will be different. He says the emissions are a bit different and if you use the maxima ecu you will get codes. Just like your getting. he couldnt give me a exact part number of an ecu without having the VIN number . Sorry.
If youd like me to have him check your vin for the ecu part number(in case you cant get your original) PM me.

Dug up an old post of mine when I ran a 98 auto maxima ECU while mine was at JWT. These are the codes I got then. Basically the same as the ones I am getting now, so I am 100% sure it is the ECU

0803-Absloute pressure sensor
0801-Vacuum cut balve bypass valve
0402-Fuel temp sensor
0903-Evap canister control valve
0807-" "valve circuit
1008-" "purge valve
1302-Map baro SW solenoid/valve
1003-Park neutral switch

So do you think its the incompatibility w/ the A18 C84 EY0 ecus or just a defective unit? Because I have an A18 C84 EY0 available for sale that ran fine on my car with no codes. (shameless plug)

The ECU is fine, it is just not compatible with my EVAP system. The A18 C84 EYO is the most popular 96 5spd max ECU I have come across. But that # is the manufacturer (JECS) Part #, not the nissan part #. Nissan part # for the A18 C84 EY0 is 23710-54U01.

Most online junkyards go by the manufacturer part number, probably because that is the easiest one to see on the ECU. The entire nissan part # is not even listed on the ECU, just the last 5 numbers/letters. But since the guy I sold my ECU to seems to not want to get back to me with the manufacturer part number I only have my nissan part # to go with, which can be obtained with the VIN #.
