Hi,

For all you DIY-Mechanics out there, I want to make sure this is just my car and not everyone elses.

I had my brakes changed yesterday, my friend and I did them, he walked me through it, anyway. He was saying and showed me that the brake pads on one side of the rotor were
up against the rotor at an angle wearing the pad and the rotor at a slight angle, he showed me by measuring the pad in the midde on both sides and there is a 2-3mm difference in wear, where there shouldnt be. He said this was a factory design default and there isnt a major problem with it besides the sideways wear. Its not too big of a deal, but I want to know if anyone else has run in to this. And if not go check I'm thinking of buying aftermarket calipers to correct it.

There was no major wear on the rotors, just needed to be shaved to be touched up, no bumps or anything. Same with the pads.

Thanks

VK

In the ideal case the pads wear in a perfectly uniform manner. However, I don't think your calipers are defective. I don't think you should replace them.

I suggest you lubricate both caliper guide pins on both calipers to assure the calipers can move freely when the brakes are actuated. See Chilton (Figure 30, page 9-9) or Haynes (Figure 3.5j, page 9-6).

Thanks for your input as always, was just wondering. I'm glad its just my funky girl and not everyone's.

BTW we did put lube on both, I put Bendix pads and rotors on so I wont be changing them again for a long time, but I will check to see from time to time if its doin this again.
Also put some anti-seeze on the bolts.

I was thinking it wasnt a factory problem, since I just bought this car last Sept. It was a rental. So I think the car was babied so much that in 4 years they never changed the brakes. When I removed the old ones they were down to
1/4th of an inch. Eek!

At least I can rest easy, and know I can save up that money and do something else with it.

Thanks again Daniel
