Sunroof Problem

Car: 96 Maxima SE
Problem: Sunroof rubber seal broken. Sunroof glass plastic molding covering glass edges broken.

Is there a cheap way to fix the problem? Do I need to buy a new set of sunroof?

Thanks very much!

i had the same problem with my sunroof leaking, i had a small crack around where the molding comes together towards the back of the car. I used some black silicone that i used to seal my sub box. I basically just popped the sunroof open, and put the silicone in the little crack on the inside of the car so you can really see it. I used a note card to get the silicone in there, you don't need alot. Then i let it sit like that for about an hour or two. I know it says that you're supposed to wait 24hrs to let the silicone cure or whatever, but i haven't had it leaking ever since. I got my car salvaged, so i don't really car about doing ghetto repairs like that, but i guess you could try to pick up new molding for the sunroof if you wanted to. Also i think some maximas might have a problem with the drain tray positioned incorrectly or something. I saw it in the faqs. Check em out too.

You do not mention a leak. Do you have one? The sunroof is designed so that if water does get around the seal it will drain and not leak into the car. Why do you need to repair the seal besides the fact that you see a crack in it?

There are some light leaks because of seal broken. Wind noise increases too even sunroof closes completely. I wanted to know if I can just replace/fix that seal instead of replace the whole sunroof.

You do know the glass piece (including the seal) just unbolts from the rest of the assembly. I do not think you can replace just the seal but you could probably find just the glass for pretty cheap at a junk yard. Regarding the leaks, are they actually coming into the cabin and dripping or what? From what I remember of my sunroof, unless it is leaking on the front edge of the glass then the water should drain without coming into the cabin. What I am getting at is that your drains may be clogged.
