just installed 300zxtt brake conversion and had 2 questions

well we just finished putting on 300zx brake setup (calipers, rotors, ss lines) the other night with the help of Andy at TET, and i had 2 questions.

1) when you did your conversion do you REALLY have to press down on your brakes for it to stop? i mean, my brakes feel like mush. i have to slam on the brakes for it to start to work. yes it does feel a little bit better than stock but for it to work you really really REALLY need to press down on the brakes.

2) i hear this grinding noise coming from the front (well coming from the brakes) and it just sounds like to pieces of metal rubbing against each other. happens mostly when i turn the wheel to make a turn or something. i was told that there is a bolt that is a millimeter too long and its hitting/rubbing against the rotor. and that its pretty normal for this kind of a brake job and it will just "sand" it self down. so i was just wondering if anyone else had this problem?

They shouldnt be mushy or any different than stock... the pedal should feel just the same or a little firmer. It sounds like you probably need to bleed them again or something is wrong with your master cylinder... you should feel the car stopping a little quicker and alot less brake fade.

The screw shouldnt be a big deal, it shouldnt be there in the first place if you can take it out, take it out... if its big enough a screw its going to leave a groove in the rotor before it gets shaved off.

quick question.......can you harm your master cylinder if you have air in your lines? or is it alright for a few hundred miles.....just wondering if it had any affect on other brake components other than mushiness

well...I am in the process of getting everything 2gether to do it on one day...JWT S/C program ecu with new 370cc injectors which I am trying to track down, and nismo adjustable FPR, walbro HP fuel pump, have to sand down the charge piping and repaint it, and send in the supercharger to be rebuilt at vortech...also I need to call stillen and get all the bolts/nuts/washers needed and lastly, gauges and such....I am also going to get an electic exhaust cut-out welded and wired in and possibly some headers to replace my warspeed mandrel Y....I also am going to do a compression test later this month to see if my engine is ready for boost and am in the process of trying to find a 2001 AE LSD 5spd tranny and swap that in with some new raxles and exedy stage 1 I have...(gonna put redline in the that sucker!)...I will definitely give you a ride as soon as it's in!!!

the tranny and injectors are proving hard to track down at a reasonable price!
