96 Max Power Steering pump replacement

Looks like I will have to replace my PS Pump. Any suggestions on where to get the best price.

Currently, I have gotten a quote of $138.00 plus $38.00 core fee from Auto Zone, and similar quote from Advance Auto.

Anyone have any bad experiences with the Auto Zone Power Steering Pump?

Thanks

Sounds like a decent price for it, did you check with the dealership and see how much they are charging? If they are charging a few dollars I'd be better to go with the dealership so you know you have a direct OEM product.

so the 138 plus 38 core makes it $100 for it? or $138 after you return your old pump?

DO you have that nascar type steering going on?

The $138.00 is final cost plus tax.

Dealers want $390.00 average. Installed about $900.00

Not sure what NASCAR steeing means!

Did your car have any symptoms before it gave out? I don't know if it's my pump, or what but I am having power steering problems on a cold startup. The car will squeek for half a second or less after being cranked and sometimes after I crank it and turn the wheel to the lock it squeals for a few seconds but ends after that. Today however, there was a different feel in the steering wheel. While I was turning it would act normal and smooth for a small part of the turn, and then felt like I had no power steering at all, it would come back, and then off again for most of the turn I made while backing out.

Any ideas? Don't mean to hijack the thread, just trying to find out what is wrong.

oh cause nascar has no power steering at all, so when you have th key on but car not started how you can turn the wheel but you have to really force it, thats how they have to drive, and thought you might have that going on . . . probably a bad joke. . .

My PS feels normal.

I have a leak that "may" be coming from the Banjo fitting. Still trying to figure where the leak is coming from. I figure that with 108000 miles I will probably need a new pump. Hope to figure it all out tomorrow.

It crossed my mind, I'll probably check it before I leave in the morning.
