95/96 vs. 97+ Grill

I have read in many threads that the 95/96 grill is shorter than the 97+. I am about to get the 97+ grill and make it fit on my 95 Max. I understand that I have to trim the 2 legs (bumper side) to make it fit. I looked behind the 97+ grill and found that the lower mounting brackets are almost at the end of the legs so you can only trim a small portion of the legs, see pic below:

I read that you have to trim ~1". Does that mean somewhere within one inch? Based on the picture above, there's probably 1/4" that you can trim off of the legs before you get to the lower brackets. So my question is, exactly how much will I have to trim off of the 97+ grill legs w/o cutting off the lower mounting brackets? Do I have to cut off the lower mounting brackets too? If this is so I will toss out the whole project?

Any input is appreciated.

Basically.......cut a LITTLE bit....test fit...cut a lil more....test fit etc etc.

Trial & Error

If all else fails, use zip ties

Thanks...I'm just concerned that in order for it to fit, I'd have to cut the legs off. I'm not too crazy about zip ties because in time, it will get brittle and will eventually just snap and before you know it, your grill is flappin' in the wind. That just happened to the mesh grill I made a year ago. I didn't know that half of the zip ties came off and it was flappin and cutting into the grill shell. Now that section is all ugly and scratched up. That is why I am looking for a new grill now.

You should cut 1/4". But like soulfly said, cut and test for your car, then repeat. I don't know where you heard 1"!
