Tranny fluid

I changed my tranny fluid and filter the other day. I accidentally overfilled the tranny case by about 1/2 to 3/4 of a quart. To anyone's knowledge, does this excess fluid have any negative effects? Just curious.

Check your tranny fluid when the engine is and tranny are HOT and the car is on level ground. Adjust the level until it's within spec. To little or to much isn't good for the tranny.

It's not going to blow up if your over a little, but make sure you take some out.

It probably isn't too big of a deal if you have an extra 1/2 quart over a 9 quart capacity ( I think it's 9, someone correct me if I'm wrong?)

The key is to check the fluid while the car is HOT and IDLING in PARK on level ground.

Good luck!

easy to remove trans fluid

I found a link about this on maxima.org which brought you to another site that gave a GREAT idea. One way to simply remove/replace trans fluid is to take a turkey baster (preferably not a used one) and syphen it out directly from the engine.

I agree w/the other poster, too much or too little fluid can cause problems and if it's easy to be within specs, why not be there?

Good luck!

Umm a little too much wont hurt, I'm pretty sure out trannies arent that sensitive to where say 3/4 quart too much oil, would start to cause damage. if it was too little that is a different story.

correct me if I'm wrong. . .

I've used the turkey baster technique for emptying the power steering fluid reservoir; I think this is what you're referring to, considering that PS fluid in our cars is the same Dextron III/Mercon used in our automatic transmissions. There's a drainplug on the transmission oil pan for draining the trans, although that doesn't get the fluid out of the torque converter.
