steering wheel shimmy

steering wheel shimmy
Hey guys, I just recently noticed going above 70 mph, my steering wheel starts to shimmy a little ; actually in fact it feels as if the whole car is. It's not that evident, but you can still feel it. I have had new tires put onto my car about 4 months ago, and got them aligned. Going Below 70, the car is fine....I don't konw what it is???? Also, when I accelerate from a dead stop, my car doesn't seem to pick up speed that fast. It seems as if the car makes more noise than accelerates - to top that off, i have to push the accelerator pretty hard for it to move.
* Not really ranting, love the car a LOT - but just wanna make sure everything is cool....BTW had all my sensors replaced already
Cars a '98....Thanks in advance guys.....
*EDIT - no service engine light - last time it was on, got codes for sensors which were replaced

I'd guess you have an alignment issue. Hit a curb? Pothole? That would be my guess with the shimmy. A dumb story of mine is my steering wheel was really shaking badly but the steering wheel adjustment fell loose. I felt dumb but glad it wasn't bad. As far as accel. issue I'd say maybe it is your mass airflow or knock maybe? Just guesses, both affect hp quite a bit. Goodluck!!!

Could also be that your wheels arent balanced right??? They use weights on the wheels to keep the balance maybe you lost one or the wear on the tire put it off???
Acceleration being that you have an Auto, thats just how it is... You dont have a Low end drag racer, Maximas are more of a mid/top end car...And theirs no CEL so I can't say that there's a problem with a component???
Unless its a noticable change from before maybe its just your mind???

Brake rotors could need resurfacing. Mine does the same thing.
*edit - I say that because getting the tires rotated and balanced made no difference for me. That, and the car shakes much worse when I take my foot off the gas and / or hit the brakes.

they may have only done a static balance on the wheels. A dynamic balancing is better if you have shimmy problems. If you only have balance weights on the inside edge of the rim, it likely a static balance.....if you see wheels with weights on the inside and outside edge its dynamic.
The rotors may have gotten some loose debri behind them when the tires were mounted.
Could also be a tire thats not as accurate as it should be.
You could try rotating tires to see if the shimmy gets better or worse.
I also think Max's tend to have some minor vibrations at speed....all three of mine had some vibrations, depite my efforts to eleiminate them.
