Belt/Crankshaft pulley/power steering problem???
I recenlty started hearing the "squeaking" noise from the belts...as if they were wet. Anyway, a few days later, my belt ran off the pulleys and was destroyed.(The main belt with the alternator, compressor and crankshaft pulley). I replaced all the belts (The one that was destroyed and the one from the crankshaft pulley to the power steering pump). Now, the car runs, but with a rough sounding noise that increases when the throttle increases.(I heard this noise with the squeak too). I took the belts off again to have a look around. The crankshaft pulley (look at the picture of page two of the how to section) wobbles around. I was able to take the outter rim of it completely off from the rest of the pulley.
First queston: Should the crankshaft pulley be able to come apart in two sections as described above?
Second: how can I tell if this is a power steering pump problem?
....I gave up for today, but will be working on it tomorrow
thanks
Steve
