Banging Sound
Banging Sound
Thanks Guys, I hope you can help...One of my students just bought a 95 GLE with 107k miles. When driving in gear, banging/clunking sound is heard in rear of vehicle. It almost sounds like it could be coming from the rear speaker shelf, but lower.
Thanks again

Wow you're a nice teacher.
More details would probably help. Is it when going over bumps? Is it rythmic (like with the rotation of the wheels)? Basically just what will make it happen or if it just does it all the time.

Check the rear upper shock mounts. You can access them through the trunk. Pull down the inner rear trunk lining in the corners just behind the rear seatback pannel. Check and make sure the center nut holding the shock piston in place is tight. You could also have a defective rear shock making the noise.
