will any d2r bulbs fit in the stock housing? or do we need some special kind of bulb that will fit in the 9004 hole? i SHOULD get d2r bulbs with stock housing, right?

and will any HID ballast be able to hook into these? or do specific ballasts match up with specific types of bulbs?

No, d2r will not fit stock housings. I just finished my HID's, retroed BMW E46 projectors with Maxima HID ballast, so I can tell you first hand they won't fit.
You will need something like THIS . Secondly, ballast and bulbs don't need to match, any combo should work. hidplanet.com is a great reference I learned alot there.

does something like that exist for 9004's? or is H7 the same thing as 9004?

the bulbs i have right now are 9004 HIDs (the Hanabi kit). are 9004 HID bulbs not available anymore? i dont think that this had any kind of adapter like that... it simply fit in the 9004 slot (correct me if im wrong). can i somehow use the old bulb to make this "adapter" myself?

you've got to remember that Hanabi, McCullough, etc are kits and use HID bulbs that are made for 9004, 9007, etc. Unlike using phillips ballasts you will have to use d2 based bulbs unless specified. So the best bet for you Irishmax is to get some d2r bulbs with some 9004 adapters.

There is a group deal on hid's in the GD forum, either Xtec or Helios will be able to hook you up with hid bulbs.

I don't think there is such an adapter... I'm pretty sure you would need to grind down the base of the oem HID bulb and fit it into a gutted 9004 halogen base.... Not impossible, I've seen pictures of it done (sorry I don't have the link anymore) but not exactly easy. Otherwise, you could probably use some silicone to secure the d2s bulbs, it's a little ghetto, but it'd prolly work.

ebay is ok, but watch for false imitations. I got my kit from here, 1 day DHL shipping from Canada. 6000k is the best bet. ask for steve.

we should try to get someone to custom make these d2 adapters for 9004's. it would make things a whole lot simpler.

are any adapters available for 9004's? what if we could go from like 9004 to H3 to d2 (connecting multiple adapters)?

NO. Do it the right way and retrofit projectors into your headlights.

Understood. But the glare from HID's put into housings that were never designed for it is terrible. Do it right or don't do it at all.

or do it, and then when the time AND money comes along to do the next step, proceed with making projectors...

This guy doesn't know anything. He's just trying to sell you crap you don't need. Usually with phillips ballasts they only take d2 based bulbs. Unless you are willing to take the risk of buying bulbs that don't fit your ballast, you shouldn't do it. Do just like you posted, phillips ballast with phillips bulbs. The ultimate OEM HID system.

when i first got HIDs, it was well before anyone had done projectors on our kind of maximas.... it is still somewhat uncommon and newly emerging. TONS of people on the org have put in HIDs without projectors. i know that its not the best way, but not long ago, this was the standard, and it WAS considered the "right" way. i also do not want to get rid of my current HID setup because that would be a waste of several hundred dollars. i would like to use whatever i buy.

furthermore, i cannot justify to myself spending quite a bit of money in order to simply get a better beam pattern out of the lights (on a 1997 car that is worth under 9k), especially when i am a college student (much poorer than when i bought the HIDs)

my point is that i would only like one thing: new HID bulbs that will work in my 9004 headlight housing

oh, i also want people to NOT flame on me for wanting 9004 HID bulbs

Then i believe that you must get a replacement 9004 HID Bulb.

I also have 9004 HID Bulbs i bought a while back when Hanibi was the trend.

and you need 9004 bulbs with these, umnitza sells 9004 replacements, contact him.

He'll be gettin my old ballasts. I have phillips conversion ballasts, not OEM ballasts. I told him that he cannot have D2Rs, unless he mods the bulbs. I didn't mention this to him because he's just learning about HID. So go easy on the fella, he's learning . i'm trying to guide him along with my current knowledge.
