Give em a call with the measurements on the stock unit. They already make 4 other sizes for Nissan apps. Maybe one of em fits us?

I have a 95 GLE and a 99 SE-L. The steering on the 99 feels 1000x better.

No, I checked all the bushing companies and they said no, I even sent one of the new oem bushings I eventually used, to the tech boys at energy suspension and they looked high and low and found nothing close!!

i30krab have u ever driven a SE 97+ maxima? i wanted to see how the steering compares, but for ~$500 i think i found my next mod ... no more hooker loose steering w000t
To be honest I never drove any maxima from any year!
Go for it, I promise you'll be happy

Getting my new rack today! Of course, I am also getting a new suspension installed (Illuminas/H&Rs) and new end-link busings, so the car will drive like it's brand new... I'll let everyone know...

Interesting concept.

Steering feel in the 95 is alright. It's super light on normal driving, but when being pushed it tightens up pretty nice, could always be better.

I desparately need to replace my rack, becuase it's old and realy sloppy. Too much play int he steering wheel, but damn the labor to replace it is insane!

It shouldnt be too horrible. I am paying about $600 for a remanufactured rack and the labor to put it in. Putting in the rack can be done by anyone who has the equipment to support the engine (you have to remove the crossmember supporting it from below to access the rack).

You can support the engine with a jack and/or jack stands in your garage. It's not that hard.

Er...
would YOU trust your engine to that?
Anyway, as it turns out there is a lot more room available to put the rack in than the Haynes manual assumes. The guys putting in the rack for my Max didn't have to remove the cross-member...

So has anybody done anything similar to this yet? I was looking around on Car-parts.com and saw some interesting things.
One was that they listed different part numbers for the 97-99 SE and the 95-96s and 97-99 GXEs and GLEs, which is what people have already said in this thread.
Second was that in 2000+ there were 3 different choices of racks, dependant upon wheel size. Since one was calibrated to 17" wheels, I was thinking it might be even nicer than the column in the 97-99 SE's. I wonder what the size of the wheels has to do with it all.....and if I remember correctly, there were racks for sale for well under $200...
